James has been serving with Capernwray NZ for 10 years.
He married the beautiful Annie in 2014. Annie moved to NZ from the states in 2012, where she served as a youth worker at RSCC and 24/7. For the past 7 years she has played the role of an amazing mother and support to James as the Adventure Ministry Director.
They feel honoured and privileged to lead this amazing ministry to where God is guiding it to go.
James and Annie have a heart for developing people into a deep and impacting relationship with the Lord. They are deeply committed to proclaiming the transforming presence of Jesus Christ through biblical teaching, personal development and practical training, equipping men and woman for service in His church.

Started 1999 by Peter Bichan
ABS (Adventure Bible School) is a 6 week outdoor based Bible School. It is aimed at developing the whole person; spirit, soul and body, particularly in the area of Christian living.
ABS Internship Programme
Initiative started in 2005
The ABS internship programme, designed for ABS course graduates to further extend their leadership skills by returning and serving on another ABS course. Over 20 individuals have completed the internship course.
Initiative started in 2014
The Journey Camp for 16-18 year old youth has had over 500 individuals participate in this programme, involving fun adventure activities and Bible study designed to encourage and deepen participants relationship with God and develop leadership skills.
Outdoor Qual Training
Started in 2018 by James Bruce
A programme to support Christian Camps by certifying staff with formal outdoor qualifications.
There have been 19 trainees compete qualifications to date, and another seven are in progress.
Adventure Ministry Trainees
Initiative started in 2018
A formal Adventure Ministry Trainee programme was started to upskill and give foundational training for those interested in outdoor adventure based learning.
Home School Outdoor Education
Initiative started in 2020
14 participants have completed this first outdoor education programme designed for home educated youth. The programme is under further development.
Initiative stared in 2021
A new 6 month program for New Zealand Staff and Volunteers involved in Christian Camping, developed and funded in partnership with CCNZ.
It includes a total of 7 weeks onsite in three blocks at the Capernwray Adventure Lodge at Lake Karapiro. The remainder of the time is spent at the participant's home camp.
While at their home camp, participants will practice the skills they learned, and complete log and assessment books for their outdoor qualification. Participants may choose one outdoor qualification (abseiling, rock-climbing, or kayaking) to complete during the course.
A specific project specific for each participant will be worked on during the course.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to embed values and faith lessons into an activity or programme from their home camp.
